The National Society for Clean Cities India Children's Complex was established in 1972 by Begum Zehra Ali Yavar Jung, wife of the then Governor of Maharashtra, Nawab Ali Yavar Jung and encapsulated her love for children and a healthy and clean environment and the importance of early education. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 and the Bombay Public trust Act of 1950.
Begum Zehra Ali Yavar Jung was deeply concerned and appalled to see how the living conditions of the less fortunate had deteriorated and how high rises were spewing garbage onto the streets. She garnered support from stalwarts like JRD Tata (who was Patron of the organization), Keshub Mahindra, Soli Godrej, Jamshed Bhabha, Dr Syedna Burhanuddin Saheb and his organization, Municipal officers and several concerned citizens. It was her firm belief that in order to make any impact, one had to start by educating children. The Children's Complex was the culmination of her efforts to this end.
